The morning sun cast golden light across the Sunlit Shallows. Scuba Bob stretched and smiled. Today was going to be special.
"Ready for another adventure?" asked Finn, adjusting a captain hat.
"Always!" said Scuba Bob, grabbing a notebook, pencil, and goggles.
The crew met at the beach. Finn was doing flips. Wanda was writing in the sand. Pearl was reading about ocean animals.
"Today we put everything together!" said Captain Coral. "You have been practicing math and reading all through Grade 1!"
They walked along the shore and found 15 shells of different sizes. Scuba Bob sorted them: 7 big shells and 8 small shells. "7+8=15! They all add up."
Then they saw words in the sand: BRAVE, SMART, KIND, STRONG. Pearl said, "Those are adjectives — and they describe YOU!"
Scuba Bob blushed. "Adjectives describe nouns. And I am a noun — a person!"
Wanda said, "First, five friends met at the beach. Next, they found 15 shells. Then, they read kind words. Last, they realized friendship was the best treasure."
"Sequence words: first, next, then, last!" said Scuba Bob.
As the sun set, the sky turned blue to orange to purple. Finn found 3 sand dollars. Scuba Bob found 5 more.
"3+5=8! If Finn takes 3 back, I keep 8-3=5!" said Scuba Bob.
"This was the best day ever," whispered Scuba Bob, writing one final number: the number of friends. 5.
