🔤 Words to Know
Tide pool — A small pool of ocean water that stays on the rocks when the tide goes out.
Creature — A living animal, like a crab or a starfish.
Scuba Bob woke up early. The sun was warm and the sky was blue. Today he would visit the tide pools near the beach!
"I want to count every creature I find," said Scuba Bob. He grabbed his notebook and a pencil.
At the first tide pool, he saw 3 orange starfish stuck to a rock. "One, two, three!" he counted, pointing at each one.
At the next pool, he found 5 tiny crabs hiding under a shell. "One, two, three, four, five!" He touched each crab gently as he counted.
Captain Coral walked over. "How many creatures so far?" she asked.
"I found 3 starfish and 5 crabs. That is 8 creatures!" He held up his fingers — three on one hand and five on the other.
"Great counting!" said Captain Coral. "Every creature gets one count. That is the rule."
