🔤 Words to Know
Prefix — A group of letters added to the BEGINNING of a word to change its meaning.
Meaning — What a word tells you or stands for.
Finn found three signs at the mangrove roots. Each sign had a special word on it.
The first sign said UNDO. "The prefix UN- means NOT," explained Pearl. "So UNDO means to NOT do, or to reverse something."
The second sign said REDO. "RE- means AGAIN. Redo means do it again!"
The third sign said PREVIEW. "PRE- means BEFORE. A preview is when you see something before it happens."
Finn practiced with more words: "Unhappy means not happy. Rewrite means write again. Preschool means before school!"
"A prefix always goes at the beginning of a word," said Pearl. "It changes the meaning but keeps the root word inside."
"So if I know the prefix, I can figure out what new words mean!" said Finn.
