🔤 Words to Know
Factor — A number that divides evenly into another number.
Multiple — The result of multiplying a number by a whole number. 12 is a multiple of 3.
"What are the factors of 24?" asked Finn.
Scuba Bob started checking: "1x24=24. 2x12=24. 3x8=24. 4x6=24. The factor pairs are: (1,24), (2,12), (3,8), (4,6)."
"So the factors of 24 are: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12, and 24," said Scuba Bob.
"Now, what are the first 5 multiples of 6?" asked Finn.
"6, 12, 18, 24, 30! I just multiply 6 by 1, 2, 3, 4, 5," said Scuba Bob.
"A number is a factor if it divides evenly with no remainder," said Finn. "A multiple is what you get when you multiply a number by whole numbers."
"Is 24 a multiple of 5?" asked Finn. "No! 5 x 4 = 20 and 5 x 5 = 25. It skips 24."
